Gratefully washed-up

When I wash up on that quiet shore
the moment my fingers touch the sand
I realise how terribly tired I truly am
and how grateful I am to be held, here

my tiredness turns to peace, and joy
and at last I understand how those earlier toe-holds
(the very ones I thought were helping me get somewhere)
were just sunken logs, drifting me further away
